Applications are now open for the International Programme for Ugandan Rural Women of Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs) titled “Advocacy, Association Development, and Leadership.” This fully-funded study tour in Germany aims to empower women in rural areas of Uganda in the agriculture and food sector.
Objectives:
The program aims to enhance female leadership skills, promote knowledge about lobbying and advocacy, and give rural women a voice. It also seeks to empower FBOs and women’s groups in the agriculture and food sector. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences with rural women in Germany, gaining insights into the activities of the German Association of Rural Women (dlv).
Program Phases:
1. Preparation Workshop: A two-day session in Kampala, scheduled for the end of August or beginning of September 2023. It will focus on team building, communication, visa support, and travel document preparation.
2. Study Tour: From 1st to 11th October 2023, selected participants will embark on a study tour in Germany. This tour includes theoretical inputs on advocacy, networking, association development, female leadership, and visits to rural women’s associations and agricultural businesses.
3. Follow-up Workshop: A two-day workshop in Uganda (scheduled for November/December 2023) to discuss participants’ progress, challenges, and the implementation of their transfer ideas/activities.
4. Implementation of Transfer Ideas/Activities: Participants will independently implement their own innovative transfer ideas/activities in the agricultural and food sector upon returning to Uganda.
5. Evaluation and Exchange Workshop: A two-day workshop (planned for May/June 2024) to evaluate the outcomes of participants’ implemented transfer ideas and facilitate knowledge exchange among all program participants.
Organizers and Coverage:
The study tour in Germany is organized by the German Association of Rural Women (dlv). The workshops in Uganda are conducted in partnership with the dlv and the Ugandan National Youth and Farming Association (UNYFA). All costs associated with participation, including travel and accommodation, are covered by the dlv.
